I have always always thought the same thing. Why do we try to become like men to prove that we’re better than them? That’s the most ridiculous thing ever. We should stay just the way we are, and know, we are just as special.

themorningstars:

Yesterday, in one of my classes, one of my classmates joyfully remarked (as students here are wont to do) that it is just so wonderful that society is coming to accept that “women can have sex the same way men do.”

I am assuming that what she meant by this remark is this:

  • Women can use birth control and abortion to negate their fertility and thereby become like men—beings who can have sex and not get pregnant.
  • Women can take this newfound “freedom” from fertility and use it to take an altogether casual attitude towards sex. No messy feelings, no strings attached. Just fun!

I do not and will not ever understand how this way of thinking could ever be considered “feminist.” It is the denial of all things feminine. Fertility is bad. Feelings are bad. The worst thing it’s possible to be in this worldview is “like a woman.” The entire point is to be like a man: infertile and hardened.

Isn’t that sickening? That sexism runs so deep in our society that, in order for women to feel okay about themselves, they have to cease to be women! They have to be men.

And isn’t it sickening that this is how we view men? Shouldn’t men find the accusation that they are these hardened creatures who thrive off of no-strings-attached encounters, who happily use women for their bodies and then throw them away, shouldn’t they find this accusation pretty insulting?

If many men do behave in this way, should we honestly be surprised? If we continually tell men that this is who they are, if we do not tell them that they can be anything more than this, then should we be surprised when they do not aspire to anything higher?

And if our society has decided that, in order for women to be equal to men, we must descend to the same level, we must kill our fertility and we must become hardened creatures who happily use men for their bodies and then throw them away, then all I have to say is: thank God for the Church, the Eternal Rebel.

I will not be made to behave like a man because I am not a man. I am a woman. My womanhood is not something to fear, something to negate, something to destroy. It is something to be loved. We are Loved.

I am assuming that what she meant by this remark is this:

  • Women can use birth…
